Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real life stories, the uncovering of phone hacking at the News of the World, and running parallel, the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan.
Following a tip from an anonymous source, journalist Nick Davies investigates reports of endemic phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch’s News of the World.
DCS Dave Cook takes on the most-investigated unsolved murder in the history of the Met and uncovers troubling links to Fleet Street.
Nick fights to protect his editor and his newspaper from a Fleet Street backlash, while forming new alliances and coming into conflict with Scotland Yard.
When a new witness comes forward, DCS Dave Cook is drawn back into the Daniel Morgan investigation.
With Andy Coulson now in Downing Street, Nick teams up with the New York Times, while Dave Cook is challenged in court over the Morgan investigation.
Dave finds strength from a surprising new ally, while Nick is drawn back into the fight and discovers disturbing new information that could change the hacking scandal completely.
As the hacking scandal finally explodes and Rupert Murdoch prepares to face Parliament, Nick, Dave, and their allies face new threats.
